The Port Award Competition was initiated 35 years ago by the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) with the aim to promote the development and efficiency of port operations among its members. Annually the CSA announces the winner of this competition and presents the winning port with the prestigious Ludlow Stewart Container Port of the Year Award.
This year, during CSA’s first in-person AGM (Annual General Meeting), Conference, and Exhibition since 2019, the Dr. Jules Sedney Port of Paramaribo (JST) was yet again announced to be the winner of the award.
JST operated in Public Private Partnership, was awarded three times before, and has proven once again to be able to make good progress despite challenging circumstances. Our port’s performance was compared to its similar period of the previous year and ten key activities including productivity, environment, gender, and digitalization were assessed. Based on the scores we were presented the award for the best-performing port amongst CSA’s members, which consists of ports within, but also outside of the region, including Columbia, Panama, and Costa Rica as well as the ports of Houston, Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa. This year there were a total of 15 participants in the competition.
Our results are a reflection of the dedication and drive of all port actors and are not possible without the commitment of all stakeholders, large or small.
NV Havenbeheer Suriname together with our partners continuously strives for the best. We congratulate every single one of our partners and look forward to increasing our performance in order to effectively accommodate growth and development in the near future.
