The expansion of the Dr. Jules Sedney Port has reached an important milestone with the driving of the first pile for the construction of a new 140-metre-long quay.
The project commenced following the signing of the contract on July 24, 2026. Since then, the necessary preparatory work has been carried out to enable piling operations to begin.
The new quay will have a load-bearing capacity of 20 tonnes per square metre and is expected to be completed within 12 months. The construction contract was awarded to Haukes Construction N.V., while financing for the project is provided by Hakrinbank N.V.

Through this strategic investment, N.V. Havenbeheer Suriname is preparing for the growing demand for high-quality port and logistics facilities. The new quay will increase the operational capacity of the Dr. Jules Sedney Port and support the expanding logistics and maritime activities associated with the development of Suriname’s offshore oil and gas sector.
The project will also strengthen the port’s role as a key logistics hub and contribute to the country’s broader economic development.
